ORL is seeking an experienced, passionate, visionary, and community-minded librarian to lead our Downtown Kelowna branch.  We invite you to bring your expertise and commitment to service excellence to a role where you can make a real difference.

The Kelowna Branch Head Librarian II leads one of the two largest branches in the Okanagan Regional Library system. This is a key leadership position responsible for a busy downtown library with strong community connections and a staff of 30 people. This position works collaboratively with the Branch Head Librarians at the Rutland and Mission branches to coordinate service to the entire city of Kelowna. Our leadership librarians in ORL also work collectively to provide strategic direction and assist with project work in support of the entire library system.

Located in beautiful British Columbia, the ORL regional library system stretches from Golden in the Rocky Mountains through the wine and fruit producing lands of the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys to the semi-desert Osoyoos at the US border. ORL is a vibrant regional library system, with 30 branches, serving 26 diverse communities, over 250 employees, and a service population of over 400,000 people. The city of Kelowna is the largest urban center in the region with a population of just under 135,000. Kelowna is known for hot sunny summers and mild winters. The region is full of opportunities for outdoor recreation from swimming and boating, to hiking and fishing, to cross-country and downhill skiing and snowshoeing. The city is vibrant and boasts a growing tech industry, both a college and university campus, and wonderful restaurants and wineries.

The Downtown Kelowna Branch is an exciting urban library, located in the heart of Kelowna’s Cultural District and Tech Centre.  The two-story facility features bright, large meeting and teaching spaces, and a makerspace. The library also houses the UBC Okanagan Innovation Library – a partnership with the university to bring access to UBC research resources into the downtown. Kelowna Library has developed strong partnerships in the city, situating the library at the heart of the community as an important component of the vibrant Cultural District.

The Kelowna Branch Head Librarian II is responsible for the leadership and administration of our Downtown Kelowna Branch Library. The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to form and maintain vital community partners. This position leads a strong team dedicated to providing outstanding library service and to maintaining a supportive and collaborative workplace.  Under the general direction of the Director of Public Services the Branch Head Librarian II provides leadership, advocacy, administrative support, supervision, and professional librarian perspective to a major branch library and will function as a senior advisor to the Director of Public Services.
