You can download eBooks and eAudiobooks directly to your tablet or smartphone using the original OverDrive App for iPads and iPhones running iOS 12.0 or newer, Android tablets, smartphones, or Amazon Fire tablets running Android 5.0 and newer. The OverDrive App will be removed from app stores in February 2022.

1. Are you comfortable using tablets or smartphones?
You will have to download an app to your tablet or smartphone to allow you to borrow digital books from the ORL.
2. Do you have access to a wireless Internet connection?
It is needed to download digital books directly to your tablet or smartphone.
3. Do you have an ORL card and PIN Code?
You will need both to borrow digital books. Reset your PIN code online if your email address is associated with your library account
Visit your app store and download the OverDrive App to your tablet or smartphone.
When you first open the OverDrive app, you will be prompted to create an OverDrive Account.
Tap Sign Up. Go to Enter your details. Enter name, an email address, and create a password. Tap Sign up. Verify your OverDrive account from your email.

From the app, tap on the home menu icon, ≡ (found in the top left corner of the app).
Select Add a Library or Manage Libraries. On the following screen, search for Okanagan Regional Library. Select a library branch, then, tap Okanagan Regional Library to save it.
The ORL eBooks website will open in the app and Okanagan Regional Library will appear at the top of the screen.
Tap the Books icon in the top right hand corner or tap Sign In, enter your library card number and PIN (password). You are now ready to borrow eBooks and eAudiobooks with just a few taps!
Search for titles or authors, or browse by Subjects or Collections (you may need to tap on the menu icon, ≡ on the right side of the screen to see these options).
Books that are out on loan will have a Wait List banner at the top. Books that are ready to borrow will have an Available banner.
Tap on the … icon or the cover image of the book see book summaries, samples, or read-alikes.
Tap on Place a Hold to be put on a waiting list for digital books out on loan.
The first time you place a hold, you will be asked for an email address to send the notification to for when the book is ready. You will have 3 days from the time the notification is sent to go to your account and borrow the book.
Tap on Borrow to check-out the book. If desired, change the lending period (7, 14, or 21 days) before tapping Borrow again in the pop-up window. In the SUCCESS! window, tap Download to add the title to the Bookshelf on the app.
The title will also be added to your Loans page under My account on the ORL eBooks website, and will be available to download from there.
Once the download is complete, you can start enjoying your book. Select the app menu icon ≡ (in the top left corner of the screen), tap Bookshelf and tap on the book cover image to open and enjoy your book.
Renewing your digital book
You may renew your digital book, if there are no holds on the title.
Three days before your book is due, a Request again link will become available under the cover image of the borrowed book on the Loans page of your account on the ORL eBooks website.
Click on the Request again link to open the form. Confirm your email address and click the Submit. You will get an email when the title becomes available for check-out at the end of its initial loan period, after which you can check out the title again from the Holds page in your account and re-download it.
If there are holds on the book, filling out the Request again form will add you to the wait list for the book.
While digital books are returned automatically at the end of their loan period, you can also return digital books early from the Bookshelf screen on the OverDrive app.
Tap and hold the cover of the book until the return options pop up.
Tap on Return to library.
Tap Return to again to confirm returning the title to the library collection and to remove it from your account.
