Assistant Community Librarian Permanent Part - Time (7 Hours weekly)
GOLDEN BRANCH
The Okanagan Regional Library has a vacancy for an Permanent Part-Time, 7 hours weekly. Assistant Community Librarian at our Golden branch.
Schedule: Thursday 12:30 - 8:00
Under the direction of the Community Librarian, the incumbent assists the Community Librarian/Branch Head in all phases of service to the public, and assumes responsibility for branch services when the Community Librarian/Branch Head is absent for a short period of time.
Education:
Grade 12 or equivalent
Other Requirements
1. Basic knowledge of library procedures and services.
2. Basic knowledge of children’s literature
3. Good oral and written communication skills
4. Demonstrated knowledge of Internet
5. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically Word & Excel 6. Demonstrated knowledge of e-Readers and other electronic tools
7. Good organizational skills, with the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
8. Aptitude for detailed work.
9. Demonstrated ability to communicate with initiative, courtesy, tact and interest with staff and all sectors of the public.
10. Physical ability to handle book bins, boxes of books and loaded book trucks
11. Basic knowledge of cash procedures
12. Keyboarding speed minimum 35 wpm

Senior Payroll Administrator
Permanent Part-time Position - 28 hours weekly
Located at the Administrative Centre (Headquarters): 1430 KLO Rd Kelowna, BC

The Okanagan Regional Library has a vacancy for a Senior Payroll Administrator. This position performs full cycle payroll administration, cash counting, and recording certain accounting functions, accounts receivables, reporting, and responding to all related enquiries under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer. The work involves attention to details, mental concentration and requires mathematical skills as well as a good understanding of business and payroll matters.
The incumbent must possess the skills to effectively communicate with internal staff and external suppliers showing courtesy, interest and tact; must be able to handle sensitive information with discretion; organize work to meet strict deadlines.
Okanagan Regional Library has two union agreements and an exempt employee group.
Education
Grade 12 or equivalent, a college/university certificate and Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification
Experience
Minimum 5 years pf experience in a payroll position.

Branch Head Librarian II
Competition Number: 20-06 Temporary Full Time (1 year term) Westbank Branch & Westside Learning
The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is seeking a community-minded Branch Head II Librarian for two facilities that service growing communities in the City of West Kelowna, Regional District of the Central Okanagan, and the West Bank First Nation.
The ORL Branch II Librarian is in a leadership role responsible for the effective administration and management of our existing Westbank branch and a The Westside Learning Lab which has been designed for technology and learning, featuring flexible classrooms with modular furnishings and a makerspace.
The successful candidate will bring with them proven experience in developing and maintaining partnerships, identifying learning opportunities and creating outreach responses. They will develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, be a team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and stay current with trends, technologies, and best practices in public library services.
Qualifications include a Master’s Degree from an accredited Library School and at least three years relevant public library experience, including one year in a supervisory position.
This position is TEMPORARY full-time 35 hours weekly with a One (1) year.
Hourly wage is, $41.58 - $44.23

Our Vernon and Rutland branches of the Okanagan Regional Library are hiring a permanent full-time technical assistant. This position requires a high level of flexibility, self motivation and creativity. the successful candidate will be energized by the idea of learning about new technologies, creation of dynamic programming, and connecting with Makers of all ages and experiences. Experience with various technologies, coding and makerspace tool is required.
Under the general supervision of the Community Librarian, the Technical Assistant has two primary functions.
The first function is to help build people’s technical skills and bring alive their interest in what technology can do through a variety of group programming, individual training, and technical assistance. The incumbent will work with a variety of clients, such as children and teens, newcomers, seniors, job seekers, and library staff. They will assist with program design and delivery as well as provide support for the technology in the library (includes digitization equipment, sound recording studio), outreach activities and library eResources. This is a dynamic role where an enthusiasm for digital literacy and a love of teaching are required, in addition to a strong competency with technology and science.
The second function is to assist in the day-to-day operations of the library branch. This includes using the circulation module of the automated library system, checking in/out library materials, shelving material, resolving routine problems related to library material, providing reference assistance and reader’s advisory services, and conducting class and groups visits as required.
