Do you enjoy lollipops? Then you will enjoy our Walk through a Wild garden where the Bees Buzz, where we meet 10 plants the shook the world and where lollipops pop and grow! Make your own seed lollipop and take it home to grow. Watch your plant get taller and taller this summer and bring it back for our wind-up party. The gardener with the tallest plant will win a super, wild prize!
Our visiting guest, Andy the Musical Scientist, will introduce us to some of his Wild Instruments (the Persian Paddle, the Singing Spoon and the Moroccan Hockey Stick). His “thinking outside the box” message will encourage children to find new and alternative uses for unwanted items. On a wild side note, Andy is a member of the popular band Delhi 2 Dublin that has performed at the Oliver Festival of the Grape several times. This is an Everyone Welcome event.
Have you ever wondered why a rabbit has such long ears or why a mouse is so small and gray. Let us use our trusty and newly made binoculars and go tracking some wild and interesting animals and learn some wild and crazy facts along the way. Just why do ducks wear raincoats?
He is Back! Popular Magician Leif David will bring us his summer “Walk on the Wild Side” magic show. Always fun and amazing, he also promises to be a little “wild” this year. This is an Everyone Welcome event.
A wild and crazy Wind-up Party. Take a walk with an egg, turn yourself into a mummy and go on a bouncy walk. Special treats and prizes for all Summer Reading Club members. Don’t forget to bring back your “lollipop” plant. The tallest one wins!
The Oliver Library would like to acknowledge the local support of the Friends of the Oliver Library and the Oliver Arts Council who provide funding for our special entertainment, craft supplies and prizes.
The Oliver branch’s “Books to Your Door” service is a volunteer program offered by the library that matches homebound readers with a volunteer who will pick up book selections at the library and deliver them.
If you would like to be part of this program either as a volunteer or a recipient please call the library for more information.
The Oliver Branch has a very active Friends of the Library group.
They hold their Annual Book Blast Sale on the first Saturday of July each year.
Donations for their book sale can be dropped off at the Oliver Branch from January to July each year during our open hours or you can call the library to arrange for one of their members to pick up your donations.
The Friends of the Oliver Library are always looking for new members, if you are interested in joining them; please ask at the circulation desk for one of their membership pamphlets.
