The Vernon Branch is located at 3001 - 32nd Avenue.

When the library is closed there are book return slots located on the west side of the building. These are open 24 hours a day, except during Halloween, and the Easter and Christmas closures.

Craft Program - African MaskJuly 15, 2010

10:30 – 11:30 am    
Wearing a mask is a great way to pretend you are someone or something else. In this program Judy and Monica will wear masks to tell an old African folktale. You will then have a chance to make your own colourful mosaic mask using high density foam. This program is geared for children going into grade 1 and up. Seating is limited.

Friends of the Library Donations Book Sale

At the old firehall beside Coldstream Municipal Hall (9901 Kal Lake Road).  Plenty of fiction, non-fiction, children's books and magazines.  Anyone interested in donating books can call Daphne at (250) 549 -8424.     


Architect Chosen for ORL Branch in Vernon

The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is pleased to announce that CEI Architecture Planning and Interiors has been chosen as the architects to design the ORL’s new library branch in Vernon. With project management, an architect, and financing plans confirmed for the project within the past month, the ORL will continue moving forward quickly to have conceptual drawings ready for review by early fall. Public involvement will be a key component in designing the new branch.


New Vernon Branch library!

The ORL has announced plans to build a new library branch to serve the Greater Vernon community. The 30,000 square foot building will be constructed at 2803 - 30th Avenue and is targeted to open by 2013. For more information, click on this Q & A sheet.


Children's Programs
September - December 2010

Toddlertime is a free drop-in program for children under the age of three.
Toddler Time will be offered on:

Wednesday Mornings:   October 20 – November 24, 11:00 – 11:30 am

Preschool Storytime is a free drop in program for you and your preschooler starting the week of September 7 and running until December 4. They are offered on:

Mondays,     10:30 – 11:00am
Tuesdays,    10:30 – 11:00am
Wednesdays,  1:30 -  2:00pm
Thursdays,   10:30 – 11:00am
Saturdays,   10:30 – 11:00am

Please note: there are no storytimes on September 11, October 11, October 28, and November 11.

Parent-Child Mother Goose Program is a group experience for parents and their young children which focuses on the pleasure and power of using rhymes, songs, and stories together. The Vernon Library hosts an infant Mother Goose program geared for babies (0-12 months). Mother Goose for children up to 4 years of age is also offered in other Vernon locations. For further information or to register for the program at the library, please call the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club at 542-3121, ext. 108.

Pyjama Storytime is a free drop-in program that occurs on the last Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 7:30 pm. Remember to WEAR YOUR PYJAMAS! PJ Storytimes are on:

Preschool Halloween Storytime
Calling all ghouls and goblins! Get dressed in your Halloween costume, and visit the Vernon Library for our special. Parents must accompany and remain with their children. The program is free, but advance tickets are required and are available at the information desk starting October 18th. The special will be offered on:

Friday, October 29, 10:30 – 11:00 am

Spooky Stories for School Aged Kids
Friday, October 22, 10:30 – 11:15am (This is a school PD Day)

Bring your pillow and join us around our indoor campfire as we tell several spooky stories. After our stories we will make a fun Halloween craft! . The program is free, but advance tickets are required. Tickets can be picked up at the information desk starting October 4. (For grades 1 and up)

Holiday Special
Celebrate the festive season by attending our free holiday special! Advance tickets are required and are available at the information desk starting November 29.

Friends of the Library

The Vernon Friends of the Library was formed in 1990 with the specific goal of raising funds for non-budget items for the Vernon branch. Booksales are held regularly, and book bags and t-shirts are sold on an ongoing basis.
