Listening to eAudiobooks on MP3 Players or iPods

Here is what you need to start enjoying eAudiobooks from the ORL eBooks | OverDrive collection

1. Do you have access to a personal computer and are comfortable using computers?
You will have to download software to your computer to allow you to listen to eAudiobooks borrowed from the ORL.

2. Do you have a compatible media player that will play the eAudiobooks borrowed from the library?

3. Do you have an ORL card and PIN code?
You will need both to borrow digital books. You can reset your PIN code online if your email address is associated with your library account.

 

Download the OverDrive program

Notice: The OverDrive not be available to download from app stores starting February 23, 2022.

If you will be listening to the eAudiobook on a compatible MP3 player or iPod. Install the free OverDrive program your Windows Computer, and for Mac Computers (macOS versions 10.12.1-Sierra through 10.14-Mojave, only). You can find the software download link on the OverDrive App website, https://app.overdrive.com until February 23, 2022.

This program is used for downloading eAudiobooks, managing and listening to your borrowed titles, and transferring your eAudiobook to an MP3 player.

If you will be transferring the eAudiobook to an iPod, you will also need to have iTunes installed on your computer. You will need to set iTunes to Manually manage music and videos for your iPod before you follow the steps below to transfer the eAudiobook to the iPod. Mac computers running macOS version 10.15 (Catalina): The OverDrive program is not available. You can enjoy eAudiobooks in the OverDrive Listen format and play eAudiobooks in your browser over an internet connection. Find out more about OverDrive Listen from OverDrive Help

Finding and downloading eAudiobooks in the ORL eBooks collection

Visit the ORL eBooks collection at https://orl.overdrive.com

Click on the Books icon in the top right hand corner or tap Sign In, enter your library card number and PIN (password). You are now ready to borrow eAudiobooks with just a few clicks!

Search for titles or authors, or browse by Subjects or Collections.

Books that are out on loan will have a Wait List banner at the top. Books that are ready to borrow will have an Available banner.

Click on the three-dot icon or the cover image of the book see book summaries, samples, or read-alikes.  

Click on Place a Hold to be put on a waiting list for eAudiobooks out on loan.

The first time you place a hold, you will be asked for an email address to send the notification to for when the book is ready. You will have 3 days from the time the notification is sent to go to the Holds page of your account and borrow the book.

Click on Borrow to check-out the eAudiobook. If desired, change the lending period (7, 14, or 21 days) before clicking on Borrow again in the pop-up window. In the SUCCESS! window, click Download to open the eAudiobook in the OverDrive program. 

The title will also be added to your Loans page under My account on the ORL eBooks website, and is available to download from there.

You may also select the Listen Now  option to play the eAudiobook online through your browser. No downloads or programs needed, you only need an internet connection. Find out more about OverDrive Listen from OverDrive Help

 

Transferring your eAudiobook to an MP3 player

From the OverDrive program, click on the eAudiobook you wish to transfer.

Click on the Transfer button. This will open the Transfer Wizard feature, which will help you through the transfer process with on screen instructions.

Connect your MP3 player to your computer. Click Next in the Transfer Wizard. 

Once your media player has been automatically detected, click Next to start the transfer.

The eAudiobook files will transfer to your media player. The Transfer Wizard will let you know when all the files have been added to your device.

Click Finish in the Transfer Wizard.

Safely eject your MP3 player before unplugging it from the computer.

 

Renewing your eAudiobook

You may renew your digital book, if there are no holds on the title.

Three days before your book is due, a Request again link will become available under the cover image of the borrowed book on the Loans page of your account on the ORL eBooks website.

Click on the Request again link to open the form. Confirm your email address and click the Submit. You will get an email when the title becomes available for check-out at the end of its initial loan period, after which you can check out the title again from the Holds page in your account and re-download it.

If there are holds on the book, filling out the Request again form will add you to the wait list for the book. 

 

Returning eAudiobooks early

eAudiobooks can be returned early if you are using OverDrive program on a Windows computer. eAudiobooks cannot be returned early if you are using a Mac computer. 

From the OverDrive program, click on the eAudiobook you would like to return.

Click the Delete button, then click on Return/Delete to return the eAudiobook to the library collection and to remove it from your ORL eBooks account.

Note: If your ORL card has expired or you have outstanding late fees of $20.00 or more, you'll be unable to borrow from this collection. You can pay fees online. To renew an expired card, call your library branch
