We’ve updated the look of the ORL homepage!

The ORL homepage was updated in early February. Below you can find an overview of the changes that have been made.

Find Books, Music, Movies, and More

Search the Enhanced Catalogue right from the ORL’s homepage.

You can just type in a keyword in the search box and hit Go.

If you are new to the Enhanced Catalogue, here are some quick benefits to making the switch:

  • a smart search experience: keyword searching offers relevancy ranked results so the titles at the top of the list are more likely to be of interest to you. There is also an auto-suggest function for author and subject searching;
  • ability to register a username so that you don’t have to always remember your barcode;
  • optional social networking features, which will allow you to rate and post comments on items in the catalogue, as well as share booklists with other library members.

Do you wish to know more about the Enhanced Catalogue? Check out the “Getting Started” page.

Login to My Account

You can find the login button for your account on the homepage next to the search box. If it is your first time logging in to your account on the Enhanced Catalogue, you’ll be asked you to register in a few simple steps. You will only need to register once.

Finding the Standard Catalogue

Do you wish to continue using the Standard Catalogue? You can find the link underneath the search box on the ORL homepage, as well as underneath the menu when on the Enhanced Catalogue.

eBooks and Digital Resources

One click access to digital resources!

We’ve added a few more popular digital resources that can be accessed from the ORL homepage.

  • ORL eBooks: The ORL’s collection of downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks
  • Library to Go: Download eBooks and eAudiobooks from the British Columbia Libraries collection. ORL customers have access to the digital books in the collection purchased prior to April 1, 2012
  • TumbleBook Library for Kids: Your favourite collection of animated storybooks for children
  • TumbleBookCloud: Digital books for upper elementary to teen readers
  • Zinio for Libraries: Get free digital magazines through the ORL
  • Freegal Music: Download three songs a week, DRM free, from Sony’s music catalogue

You will need your library barcode number and your PIN to use these resources.

'View all Digital Resources' Button

Found on the homepage underneath the eBooks and Digital Resources heading, this button will take you to a webpage on which you can view all of the digital resources the ORL offers, listed by subject. By signing in with your ORL barcode and PIN, you can access articles from current and past newspapers, magazines, and from encyclopaedias for free! You can search the digital resources to find in-depth information on subjects including automobile repair, business plans, law, and more.

The 'View all Digital Resources' button was formerly called the 'Reference & Research' button, it will take you to the same page as the ‘Reference & Research’ button did.
