The Okanagan Regional Library (ORL) is the 16th largest library system in Canada, serving over 370,000 residents.  It covers some of the most beautiful territory in BC, stretching from Golden in the Rockies to Osoyoos in the heart of the Okanagan wine and fruit growing areas.  The system is staffed by energetic and committed people who have begun the shift to a more learning and technology focussed service.

The next Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will build on the ORL’s recent growth and development and provide innovative leadership to the ORL as it responds to the rapid pace of change in the public library sector and the evolving needs of the communities ORL serves.  Reporting to a 24 member Board of Directors comprised of elected representatives from town councils, regional district boards and First Nations, the CEO is responsible for providing vision and leadership to the ORL, and for planning, organizing and directing all facets of its operations to effectively meet the needs of its members for library services within the strategy, policy and financial framework established by the Board.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic and collaborative leader with exceptional communication interpersonal skills.  S/he will have a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a senior management position in a Canadian multi-branch library system, including experience in financial management and some experience working successfully with a large political Board.  A graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredited institution is required.
