The ORL recognizes its paid staff as the backbone of its service to the public and endorses a policy that no paid staff position be displaced by a volunteer, while recognizing that volunteers can add value to the delivery of public services. Volunteer opportunities vary greatly from branch to branch, so if you are interested in volunteering at the ORL please contact the Branch Head or Community Librarian at your local ORL branch.

The majority of ORL volunteers are members of Friends of the Library groups in their area who assist with local booksales and other events. Those interested in helping the ORL through volunteerism are strongly encouraged to contact a Friends of the Library group in their area.
