Childrens Books

A wide range of material is available for our younger customers.

Board Books

These books for babies and toddlers have stiff laminated pages that are easily cleaned. The simple, bright illustrations feature activities and objects young children can easily identify.

Picture Books

The library has a large collection of highly illustrated, limited text stories for the preschool-kindergarten age group.

Advanced Picture Books

Although these books are in the picture books format, many of them contain illustrations, text and ideas which may be very sophisticated and will be of interest to older children.

Junior Easy

Junior Easy fiction provides children who are learning to read enjoyable stories featuring larger text and some illustrations. Books are marked with red, yellow or green spine labels to indicate rising levels of difficulty.

Junior Fiction

Chapter books (marked with a blue spine label) contain stories for children moving up from the Junior Easy level material. There are many fiction titles, mostly in the paperback format, for the 8-12 age range.

Junior Non-fiction

Information books are available on a wide variety of topics. Although the focus of the collection is recreational reading, many titles provide material which can be useful for school projects. Many Junior Easy information books do not contain controlled vocabulary and are marked with just an "orange dot".

Junior Kits

Combination book-cassette or book-DVD kits for 4-9 year olds are useful for children who are learning to read. They can be enjoyed at home or while travelling.
